SPRING, STREAMS AND RIVERS

Enugwuabo is blessed with so many sources of natural water including springs, streams and rivers namely; Nzeakwu, Onyiamaku, Iyiocha, Ogba, Onuogidi, Odonwhu, Ozhi, Iyinwopia, Onu-uda, Nwadiana, Nwosum, Nwaokukoro, Ada-nwosum, mmam and more.

It is no exaggeration that we are so endowed with water that our forefathers could not only choose the very best of the bodies of water for drinking, but also have abundance of them left over, enabling them dedicate some for processing cassava for tapioca (nsata abacha) and fermenting cassava (Nyota Ngbaduga) as in Onuda and Onu Ogidi. Streams for drinking water include Onyiamaku, Iyi nwopia, Iyi ocha, nwadiana aguowa. We also have spring for drinking water such as Nwosum. The streams are also used in washing breadfruits, for bathing and washing of clothes.

There is such a spread of water that the farmer is always no farther than a few minutes from somewhere to quench their thirst or wash of the dust and dirt of farm work before gracefully returning to the community.

The rivers and streams also served as a meeting place for fun and adventure loving children and teenagers as they paddle and swim and engage in water sports.

A lot of the streams also have fishes as well as crocodiles and snakes living in harmony with people who use them. In some of the waters, the crocodiles and fishes are not killed for consumption but are instead left to flourish and maintain the natural biodiversity that makes our homeland unique. Most of the spring water and streams are also believed to have healing powers.
